The tipsy tour of 10 classy cocktails in Malta
Chin chin!

Nicole Parnis

There’s nothing like a well-made cocktail after a hard week at work, and, luckily for us, Malta boasts a multitude of cool and swanky bars to satisfy that craving! We’ve rounded up some of our favourite cocktails from St Julian’s all the way to Valletta to get you into that Friday feeling. Chin chin!

1. Henry J Beans, St Julian's

If straight up retro is your thing, look no further than Henry J Beans. Go for a rum, fresh cream and pineapple Piña Colada and take in all the interesting Americana paraphernalia. Bring a friend and enjoy 2 for 1 cocktails at Happy Hour from 5:30pm to 7pm!

2. Jah Ruulz, St Julian's

Spinola Bay is well-known for its selection of great restaurants and colourful luzzu fishing boats. Nestled behind the bay is chilled reggae bar Jah Ruulz, where you’ll find one of the best Mojitos on the island. The views and vibe make all the difference!

3. The Villa, St Julian's

Located in the Balluta area of St Julians, expect stunning nighttime views of the neo-gothic style church, the iconic Balluta buildings and the pretty bay. Go for an expertly made Espresso Martini to be enjoyed on the terrace. Very sophisticated.

4. The Thirsty Barber, St Julian's

Known for it’s entertaining atmosphere and vast selection of expertly-made cocktails, why not go for something different? Blousie is one of their house non-alcoholic mocktails, infused with rose syrup and hibiscus flower, providing all the taste and elegance without the sore head in the morning!

5. French Affaire, Sliema

Make like Coco Chanel on The Riviera and head to French Affaire after a spot of shopping at The Point shopping mall. Their cutesy baby pink interior will satisfy all your Instagram needs, and you can enjoy an Aperol Spritz in the sun out on their Parisian-style cafe tables!

6. Charles Grech, Valletta

If it’s decadence you’re after, Charles Grech has you covered. Located just a stone’s throw away from Valletta’s Old Opera House on Republic Street, you can fit in a bit of people-watching with an air of mystery as you sip on a classic Old-Fashioned in the Capital.

7. Cafe Society, Valletta

For original, quirky cocktails, look no further than Valletta’s hippest bar - Cafe Society. Mingle with creative bohemian types as you enjoy your Cuban Gringo or Thyme Is Of The Essence (gin with thyme, raspberry and ginger beer to you and me) on the shallow steps facing the stunning Grand Harbour.

8. Kingsway, Valletta

Make like a city slicker and enjoy a post-work drink at one of Valletta’s fanciest joints. Leave it to the experienced bar staff to mix you up a refreshing peach and Prosecco Bellini as you wind down with colleagues after a long week. Court shoes and pencil skirts are optional.
