Local pageants and fashion shows are the perfect way to showcase how we can carry our traditions into our contemporary present.

This is why, local designer Herman Vasallo designed a dress like no other for a Mrs Malta participant, Rose Anne Debono.

The marvellous ball gown is inspired by the traditional and colourful Maltese tiles. Unfortunately, these tiles are not as commons as they used to be decades ago.

But Herman and Rose Anne managed to bring them back to life in this beautiful dress.

The precise designs of the tiles were also the result of a local team.

Anne went on to win the top prize for best traditional Maltese costume with this iconic gown.
