All aboard! RagusaXpress to finally launch this Saturday 17th May, connecting Malta to Ragusa
After a string of delays and much anticipation, the long-awaited RagusaXpress is finally setting sail. The catamaran, which connects Malta to Marina di Ragusa in Sicily in approximately one hour and 45 minutes, is officially launching this Saturday 17th May.
The vessel is designed to carry up to 400 passengers and 18 vehicles, making it a convenient new travel option for anyone seeking a quick escape across the Mediterranean. The inaugural journey will depart Malta at 8am, arriving in Marina di Ragusa by 10am, with a return trip scheduled for 4pm the same day.
The news was confirmed by Nello Dipasquale, former mayor of Ragusa, who celebrated the milestone on social media. He wrote, ‘Finally, the long bureaucratic journey that will lead to the activation of a new international maritime connection between our beautiful Marina di Ragusa and Malta is over!’
He went on to express hope that this new route will serve as a catalyst for growth, saying it would not only boost the region’s tourist port and the city of Ragusa, but also bring broader opportunities for economic development across the territory.
Initially slated to launch in spring 2023, the project faced multiple postponements – first to September, then pushed back again. Now, with the final green light given, travellers can look forward to a scenic journey between the islands, just in time for the summer season.
