If you were planning an outdoor adventure or a beach day this Thursday, you might want to have a Plan B, because the islands could be in for a serious soaking!

According to Malta Weather, a North African low-pressure system forming over Algeria mid-week is expected to move towards the central Mediterranean, bringing with it wet and potentially stormy weather over Malta and Gozo this Thursday, 15th May.

While no extreme weather events are currently forecast, some showers could be intense, with up to 10mm of rain possible – the average for the entire month of May. In fact, this could end up being one of the wettest days we've seen in a while for this time of year.

One major factor behind this sudden downpour is record-warm sea temperatures in the region, which are feeding extra moisture into the system and intensifying rainfall. Thunder and gusty winds may also accompany some of Thursday’s showers.

Thankfully, the weather is expected to improve heading into the weekend, so if you’ve got beach plans or countryside hikes in mind, don’t cancel them just yet.

As always, stay weather-aware and keep an eye on official forecasts, especially if you're on the road or planning to be outdoors.

Hoping for some drama in the skies this week?
