Pete Buttigieg, the Maltese-American US Presidential hopeful, announced yesterday morning that he meets the funding threshold to participate in this summer’s US presidential debates. Yep, that means he’s one step closer to the White House!

The mayor of South-Bend (Indiana), will be running for the Democratic party thanks to more than 76,000 people who have donated to his campaign, exceeding the 65,000 requirement. He told Fox News Sunday that “all of the signs are pointing in the right direction” taking him from merely exploring the idea of a 2020 run, to actually becoming an official candidate. #YouGoPete!

Pete knows it’s a long shot for the White House, but should he win the Democratic presidential nomination and defeat Trump in 2020, he will be the youngest president in US history, the first candidate to go from mayor to president and the first gay leader of the free world. He served for seven months in Afghanistan as lieutenant in the US Navy Reserves, has a first class honours degree in philosophy, economics and politics, and is the youngest mayor of a US city, so already has some good credentials under his belt.

“I get that I’m the young guy in the conversation, but experience is what qualifies me to have a seat at this table.”
Do you think Pete can make it all the way to the White House?
