A loggerhead turtle was recorded making a nest at Ghadira Bay last night, making it the fourth recorded nest on Malta’s beaches this year.
According to the Environment Resources Authority, the new nest lies adjacent to the third nest recorded a couple of weeks ago.
This site has been cordoned off by Nature Trust and ERA officials, who were present at the site, to protect the eggs.
The loggerhead turtle is classified as a globally endangered species and is protected by law. The area in which last night’s turtle laid its eggs is also a protected area and a Natura 2000 site.
