The tuna season is in full swing — and it just delivered a whopper in St Paul’s Bay!

A group of fishermen have caught a massive 300kg tuna in the Veċċja area. The incredible catch was made possible with the help of a newly installed hoist, designed to assist with hauling in large game fish like this one.

The bluefin tuna season is one of the most anticipated times of year for Malta’s fishing community, drawing both seasoned professionals and enthusiasts to the island’s coasts. This particular catch highlights just how fruitful the season has been so far — and shows off the strength and scale of the fish that frequent our waters.

Locals gathered to admire the impressive specimen, with many praising the improved infrastructure now available to fishermen along Malta’s northern shores.

Whether you're into fishing or are simply astounded by the size of fish swimming beneath you, this is definitely one for the books – or at least the family WhatsApp group!

Have you ever seen a whopper like that IRL?
