Five European countries have halted the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine from a specific bath as some patients have developed blood clots after being inoculated.

Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg and Austria have suspended use of the batch while Denmark has completely stopped all AstraZeneca vaccines until an investigation by the European Medicines Agency is carried out.

The Danish Health Authority said it pressed pause on the use of this vaccine “after reports of severe cases of blood clots in people who have been vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine from AstraZeneca.”

This specific bath (ABV5300) consisted of one million doses was delivered to 17 EU Member States and the Maltese Health Ministry is yet to confirm whether Malta received this batch as well.

Despite concerns, EMA said there wasn’t an indication that the “vaccination has caused these conditions” however a full investigated is being conducted. “Although a quality defect is considered unlikely at this stage, the batch quality is being investigated."
