WATCH: So long, Chopsly! Loggerhead turtle released after months of rehabilitation
Chopsly was released at Gnejna Bay yesterday.

It’s been a great couple of months for Maltese marine wildlife rehabilitation.

Whilst no turtles have nested on our beaches yet, 2021 has seen a record number of loggerhead turtles rescued from the sea around the Maltese islands.

One of these turtles was none other than Chopsly – a male turtle rescued by the Armed Forces of Malta on 18th June.

When found, Chopsly was seemingly unable to dive, thus Nature Trust Malta took him in and helped him get better.

Like many others before him, Chopsly managed to make a full recovery, so much so that he was released back into the sea yesterday!

The release took place at Gnejna Bay, with many onlookers cheering him on as he bravely made his way back home.

You might have also noticed that Chopsly’s shell looks a bit different…

Well, that’s because a satellite tracker was installed on him as part of a research project being undertaken by the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA).

Good luck Chopsly!
