Let the countdown begin! One month left for summer in Malta and here is everything we’re looking forward to
Food, music and sun: the three words that describe a typical Maltese summer

Only one month to go until summer is with us, and the excitement is starting to kick in. Summer often evokes a sense of nostalgia for simpler and carefree days at the beach.

From seasonal fruits to fun events, here is everything we look forward to during Malta’s hottest season:

1. The iconic Maltese festas

In Malta, there are around 95 village feasts, while Gozo has 10. The tradition started under the rule of the Knights of St John and has since transformed into a wonderful celebration of Maltese culture.

Nothing says a Maltese feast quite like band marches, fireworks, and typical kiosk food and sweets (qubbajt).

 2.  Boat days

Some like to avoid crowded beaches and would rather take the boat out for a spin and go to a quiet and serene area.

Families gather together to go on their own private tours around the islands and dock wherever they fancy. Malta has some spectacular areas, for instance, St Paul's Islands.

 3. Summer fruits

Like any other season, summer has a selection of exclusive in-season fresh fruits. This includes prickly pears, watermelon, melons, figs, peaches, plums, and many others.

Lots of local bars and restaurants take the opportunity to use fresh ingredients to create summer dishes and drinks. There's nothing more refreshing than a cool watermelon smoothie in 35-degree weather.

4. Endless events

Whether it’s a concert or a drink festival, in Malta, there's always something going on.

As the annual Isle of MTV approaches, Malta will welcome an impressive lineup of artists, including Raye, Nelly Furtado, and Rag 'N' Bone Man. Ed Sheeran and Callum Scott, among others, will also be visiting, filling the streets with music.

On the other hand, summer sees the return of the Farsons Beer Festival and the Gin Fest, among others.

5. Lots and lots of swimming

It goes without saying that swimming is the top priority for many on the summer to-do list. While some prefer going to a sandy or rocky beach in nature, others prefer to be poolside, with a cocktail in one hand and a book in the other.

In any case, swimming is a beloved activity for many, and some even brave the crowds to visit Comino.

What is your favourite summer activity?
