Need to travel to the UK? Here's what you need to do now that Malta is off the safe list
Some advice if you’re travelling to/from the UK soon.
Yesterday, British government officially banned non-essential travel to and from Malta, possibly imposing the two-week quarantine on incoming travellers. According to the government’s website, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) “advise against all but essential travel to Malta, based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.”
The office made it clear, however, that it “is not advising those already travelling in Malta to leave at this time. You should follow the advice of the local authorities on how best to protect yourself and others, including any measures that they bring in to control the virus.”
Returning to the UK
Travellers returning to the UK from the Maltese Islands on or after 15th August may need to self-isolate, the FCO said. The British government’s website has an abundance of information regarding travelling during this time.
Travellers need to provide their journey and contact details before entering the UK by filling in this form. The FCO notes that travellers may be fined up to £100 if one refuses to provide details or breaks the rules more than once. Previous self-isolation regulations apply.
