A starry farewell! Final turtle nest of the season hatches at Ramla l-Hamra
This final nest belonged to turtle Angela!

The final nest of this year’s turtle season at Ramla l-Hamra has brought a magical close, with more than 40 hatchlings making their way into the world under a moonless, starry sky.

On Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, subtle movements in Nest 6 signalled that hatching was near. By 9.25pm yesterday, the first stirring was spotted, and by 10pm, the long-awaited ‘boil’ began - a breathtaking moment for all present.

Nest 6, belonging to Turtle Angela, was originally laid on Monday, 28th July. True to nature’s rhythm, the hatchlings emerged late on Day 52, right on schedule. The site will continue to be carefully monitored over the next few nights to ensure the safety of any remaining hatchlings.

The hatching was documented using night vision cameras, with only red light permitted, when necessary, to protect the newborn turtles and prevent disorientation.

This memorable event was made possible thanks to the dedication of volunteers and the support of officials from the Environment & Resources Authority (ERA).

Go little hatchlings go!
