Big news for travellers (and shopaholics, and Broadway lovers, and anyone with NYC on their bucket list) – starting June 2026, you’ll be able to fly direct from Malta to New York with Delta Airlines!
The direct flight will take around 10 hours and 30 minutes, connecting Malta International Airport straight to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in the Big Apple.
Although Malta didn’t officially win Delta’s ‘3 Islands, 1 Winner’ competition, the island clearly stole the hearts of Delta’s employees. The airline explained it in their announcement: ‘The votes are in and we’re excited to announce our new nonstop route from JFK is Sardinia… AND Malta! While SkyMiles Members loved Sardinia, our employee voters loved Malta, so we said, “why not both?”’
That means Malta is now officially on Delta’s map – an exciting moment for local tourism, Maltese travellers, and anyone dreaming of swapping Valletta’s skyline for New York’s skyscrapers.
