If you’re sad that summer’s soon ending, here’s some happier news: the advent of autumn will bring the reopening of Simar Nature Reserve to the public from Monday 22nd September 2025, inviting visitors to step away from the bustle of everyday life and reconnect with Malta’s wilder side.

Just behind the popular gabbana area at Xemxija Bay, this beautiful wetland is a haven for both local and migratory birds. All are welcome to visit: from seasoned birdwatchers to photography enthusiasts to those simply in need of some peace and quiet. Stroll through its tranquil paths, listen to the rustle of reeds in the breeze, and keep an eye out for any winged beauties.

Opening hours are Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays between 2pm – 7pm, and Sundays between 10am – 4pm. Entrance is completely free and no booking is required – just show up and enjoy the calm!

Have you ever visited the northern nature reserve?
