Music, dance or theatre? Find your route for Notte Bianca
Malta’s favourite one-night-only cultural festival returns this week, and we’re ready to be reminded about all the amazing things we love about Notte Bianca.

Jo Caruana

Yup, on the evening of 5th October, you’ll be able to access Valletta in ways that are almost impossible throughout the rest of the year – with free museum entry, live music, dance, theatre, street installations, fun for the kids, comedy and great food.

But this year there’s actually a great new way to make the most of Notte Bianca: using a brand new coloured route system. And we love it!

Organisers Festivals Malta (the people behind other brilliant events through the year, including the Malta Jazz Festival and the upcoming Three Palaces Festival have crafted seven clever routes, and each one will create a completely different type of evening for you to enjoy, completely free!

Let’s check out what each of the routes will lead you to.

1. The Dance Route

This is the route to take if you’re keen to see what the island’s dance talent has to offer, as it features performances from leading dance companies and professionals. The projects featured here have a humanitarian theme, and most will present an artistic interpretation of the socio-cultural issues of today. Events will include Ritmika, Perspectives, Identity...What? and others, with regular shows through the evening.

2. The Theatre Route

If you love theatre, this is the route to see, as it is peppered with fantastic shows from local troupes and companies. It isn’t just for theatre aficionados, but also those who only watch the odd play or are keen to discover what the world on stage could offer them. Highlights will include It-Tfajla li Stunat – which will be performed in the law courts, Revoluclown, Notte Improv and Los Galindos, as well as street performances and improvised projects.

3. The Kids’ Route

Notte Bianca is a very family-friendly affair and, following audience feedback, the team has created this route especially for the festival’s younger audiences. They can expect to see everything from theatre to musicals, and magic to interactive games, with events like the Żigużajg Hub, Katina Maġija, Vjaġġ il-Ħrejjef and Nirien.
