15-year-old Maltese squash player Lijana Sultana has made her country proud after being crowned the U17 Australian Junior Champion at the Australian Junior Squash Championships.
According to the Malta Squash Association (MSA), this event is ‘the top junior national competition in Australia’.
“[Lijana] had to tough it out against top seed Amelie Guziac in a nail-biting final, but played brilliantly to clint the title with a three-two win,” the MSA wrote.
The Maltese starlet made it to the finals after beating Emmy Lamb in the semi-finals and Sydney Ennis and Sophie Simpson in the previous rounds.
This is far from Lijana’s first overseas competition…
Just last August, she put up an incredible fight at the Commonwealth Games after playing against gold medal winners Georgina Kennedy and Patrick Rooney.
Lijana was also crowned Australian Junior Open Champion last April.
Well done, Lijana!
