Enola Holmes 3 will be released on Netflix on 1st July.
Maltese actor Joe Azzopardi has revealed he will play a “Maltese James Bond-like character” in the upcoming Enola Holmes 3.
Joe is one of Malta’s most accomplished actors, but his latest film – where he stars alongside Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill and Helena Bonham Carter – could be his biggest role yet.
Interviewed on Australia’s Today show, he said his character Mikiel Mizzi is a Maltese freedom fighter but it is unclear to viewers whether his motives are aligned with those of Enola.
“He’s a character that anyone with Maltese roots would kill to play. He is a Maltese James Bond-type character who is very light on his feet and can fight his way out of every situation but he’s also very charming,” he said.
“He can lure you in and get you to tell him all your secrets, and he is actually based on an influential character in Maltese history so I had to do a lot of research.”
In the interview, Joe said it was a dream come true to work so closely with Millie Bobbie Brown, who shot to global fame for playing Eleven in Stranger Things.
“Not only was it eye-opening but it was also something of a learning curve,” he said.
“Millie is not just a phenomenal actress but she is a brilliant filmmaker. She shows a lot of understanding of how to dictate a scene and knows how to relax you into it.”
Enola Holmes 3, which will see the young detective travel to Malta to take on her most complex case yet, will be released on Netflix on 1st July.
