We will soon be waving goodbye to the MV Nikolaos.
The Gozo Channel has published a call for tenders for the lease of a fourth ferry for an initial two-year period.
Once a ferry is found, it will replace the Nikolaos, which has been in operation since 2019.

Although the Nikolaos is the largest vessel in the Gozo Channel’s fleet, it is fair to say it’s never been a crowd favourite and has often been criticised over accessibility concerns.
The leasing of a new fourth ferry is the first step in the Government’s plan to overhaul the Gozo Channel.
All three ferries – Gaudos, Ta’ Pinu and Malita – will be retrofitted, while the Gaudos will be repurposed as a cargo vessel.
Two new ferries, one catering for 250 vehicles and one for 75, will be commissioned.
Once the transition is complete, the leased ferry is expected to depart the fleet.
