Last weekend’s storm and ‘biblical’ Xemxija fish scene, as some have called it, have made international headlines! Just call us famous. With waves up to five metres high, it’s no wonder that it was raining fish in the seaside town – almost quite literally! Here are just some of the (somewhat hilarious) reports from international news sites.

1. Euronews

Euronews reported that “the fish came from a fish farm in the bay and ‘flew’ over due to high waves.” Some locals described the scene as biblical. You don’t see this everyday!

2. Mirror UK

According to the Mirror, “Gale-force gusts and heavy downpours, coupled with the rough seas, caused the unusual phenomenon.” You can say that again!

3. Pickle

Now it just looks like we’re starving out there! “A massive storm in Malta has locals picking dinner up off the streets,” according to Pickle. Heqq, it’s free!

4. RT News

Apart from the weird scenario that the horrific storm brought along, RT News reported that “Malta residents ignored repeated warnings to stay indoors as the island nation was battered by record winds and ferocious waves, all for the promise of some free, freshly caught fish.” Free fish or safety? Free fish – ovja!

Heck, that was one eventful weekend!
