Is it safe to consume groceries bought from Lidl Safi before it closed?
Prof. Charmaine Gauci answers this pressing question

Following news of a Lidl employee contracting Coronavirus, and the subsequent closure of their place of work in Safi, many shoppers expressed worry about having been exposed to the virus through the groceries they purchased.

Prof. Charmaine Gauci directly addressed this situation during today's press conference and gave some practical tips to shoppers, especially those who had visited the Safi branch between Thursday, 26th March and Monday, 30th March.

The Superintendent of Public Health specified that the virus predominantly lives in the human body but can survive on objects from anywhere between 24 to 72 hours. She reiterated Dr Barbara's advice and recommended people unpack their shopping bags after three days so as to ensure the virus is dead.

Should food items be needed beforehand, they should be disinfected - in the case of fresh produce, or washed with water and soap if in tins, bottles or boxes.

Prof. Gauci urged people to voice their queries and dilemmas related to COVID-19 through the 111 helpline.

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
