Many have been asking on social media wether there is a fool-proof way of handling groceries to diminish the spread of COVID-19 and virologist Dr Chris Barbara explained exactly how to do so in a recent episode of local TV show Dissett.
During the episode, Dr Barabara explained his personal approach: "When I do my shop, before I use the items enclosed in jars etc., I leave them in the bag and use them a few days later." This doesn't apply for food objects required for immediate use: "You can get a clean cloth with some water and soap and give the objects a wipe if they're needed at that very moment." This, Dr Barbara stated, would kill the virus.

In case of fresh produce, Dr Barbara said: "There doesn't need to be a virus around to do this, you should always wash fresh produce and disinfect them." By diligently following the instructions on the disinfectant bottle, the virus would be eradicated, he emphasized.
Washing hands toroughly, both before and after handling food, as well as during the day is also of vital importance.
