Malta may be a small island, but did you know that its narrowest point measures only 1.2 kilometres across? The Department of Information recently shared that this tiny stretch of land, located between Ghadira Bay and Qammieh, is the slimmest part of the Maltese mainland!
Despite its size, this area is home to a rich and diverse ecosystem, featuring coastal dunes, garigue landscapes, and rare plant species that thrive in its unique environment. The Ghadira Nature Reserve, found nearby, is a haven for migratory birds, adding to the area's ecological importance.
This narrow passage also serves as a natural link between Mellieha and the Marfa Ridge, making it a fascinating spot for hikers and nature lovers alike. You can either take an easy stroll on the east side, along Ghadira Bay, or a more adventurous hike along the west coast, which will take you from the gorgeous views at Popeye Village, heading north toward the craggy coast at Rdum il-Qammieh.
Have you ever walked across Malta’s skinniest stretch?
