Impressive! Maltese craftsman recreates iconic buildings using nothing but matchsticks
Local craftsman Anthony Sultana is wowing social media with his incredibly detailed matchstick models – miniature masterpieces that celebrate Malta’s architecture and beyond.
Sharing his work on the popular Facebook group Talenti u Passatempi Maħdumin bl-idejn (translation: ‘Handmade talents and hobbies’), Anthony showcased stunning replicas of Maltese churches and a typical Maltese townhouse facade, complete with hand-carved details. From the intricate wooden engravings on doors to the traditional wooden balconies, his creations capture the essence of Maltese craftsmanship and charm.
But Anthony’s talent doesn’t stop at local landmarks. He’s also recreated famous sites from around the world, including Rome’s Colosseum, Paris’ Eiffel Tower and London’s Big Ben, all painstakingly built from hundreds of tiny matchsticks.
Each piece is a labour of love, and a tribute to patience, precision, and a deep appreciation for art and architecture – Maltese style!
Well done Anthony!
