All eyes to the sky! Stars of Fire to light up Sliema for Stella Maris feast this weekend
It’s all happening on Saturday 23rd August at 9.30pm!

The third Sunday of August is a special date in Sliema, as locals gather to celebrate the feast of Mary, Star of the Sea; known locally as Stella Maris.

Alongside religious traditions and lively street festivities, the highlight of the celebrations is the much-anticipated Stars of Fire fireworks display, a show that has become a signature event for locals and visitors alike.

The idea of this grand pyrotechnic spectacle was born within the Stella Maris Fire Company more than a decade ago. Members envisioned a unique fireworks show, synchronised to music, that would transform the Sliema waterfront into a dazzling canvas of light and sound.

That dream first came to life around 10 years ago, and since then, Stars of Fire has grown into one of Malta’s most spectacular feast attractions.

This year’s edition will once again illuminate the skies on Saturday, 23rd August, from the Sliema Quay. The display begins at 9.30pm, featuring a wide variety of fireworks ranging from sparklers and firecrackers to toy fireworks, coloured spheres, lightning bolts, and balloons.

The evening will reach its breathtaking climax at 11 pm, when the synchronised Stars of Fire show fills the night sky in rhythm with music, offering an unforgettable experience for festivalgoers.

Running from the 18th to the 24th of August, the Stella Maris feast blends faith, tradition, and celebration. For thousands of Maltese and tourists, the fireworks spectacle remains a standout moment - an unmissable fusion of artistry and festivity on Malta’s summer calendar.
