Set sail for the spectacle! The Rolex Middle Sea Race returns to Malta this October
Nothing compares to the views (and the excitement) of the start of this race.
Get ready for one of Malta’s most breathtaking annual spectacles, as Valletta prepares for the Rolex Middle Sea Race 2025 – one of the world’s most prestigious offshore yacht races.
Over 120 yachts from around the world will once again gather in the Grand Harbour on Saturday 18th October, setting off on a 600-nautical-mile adventure that will see them sail anticlockwise around Sicily and back.
The race officially begins at 11am, with the first of seven yacht classes taking off to the sound of cannon fire from the Saluting Battery. The starting line, stretching between Upper Barrakka Gardens and Fort St Angelo, remains one of the most iconic and photogenic race starts in the world, making it a scene that draws hundreds of spectators every year.
For those planning to watch, the Grand Harbour offers countless stunning vantage points, from the bastions of Valletta to the historic waterfronts of Birgu and Senglea. Adding to the festive spirit, both Valletta and Birgu will host special events on race day, including re-enactments, marching bands, and historical displays that honour Malta’s deep (and inevitable) connection to the sea.
Meanwhile, Heritage Malta will be offering visitors a chance to experience the event from two of the island’s most historic fortresses. Fort St Elmo in Valletta will open its gates at half price, giving visitors a spectacular elevated view of the race start, while Fort St Angelo in Birgu will host an exclusive VIP terrace experience complete with refreshments and unrivalled views of the harbour action.
