Tenishia Thorton has just finished competing in the European Senior Championships in Armenia where she placed second in the snatch and fourth overall in 59kg B group.

At just 17, Tenishia was the youngest athlete competing, yet she still managed to surpass athletes from many leading countries including Ireland, Denmark, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Finland and Israel.

“The last few days before competing I wasn’t feeling mentally well, I was feeling very stressed due to the idea of competing and studying for my upcoming examinations at the same time”, Tenishia wrote.

“It was challenging but I tried my best considering everything”, she continued.

“Thank you to all of you who continuously support me, especially my coach Jesmond Caruana who keeps on guiding me every step of the way and my family. I am beyond grateful to be surrounded by amazing people who are always there for me when I need them!”.\

Tenishia was the only Maltese athlete competing and she did incredibly well.

These impressive results will continue helping Tenishia in her bid to qualify for the Summer 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Malta is proud of you Tenishia!
