Wow! Maltese athlete Niki Micallef runs 321km in 48 hours at Tennessee’s World Backyard Ultra Championship
Taking endurance sports in Malta to a whole new level!

Niki Micallef has just achieved the impossible after running 48 6.7km loops in 48 hours, totalling an impressive 321.9km.

He did this at the Tennessee World Backyard Ultra Championship in the United States of America and achieved Malta’s national record.

A Backyard Ultra race involves running 6.7km every consecutive hour until you’re too tired to continue.

The previous record for a Maltese athlete was 30 loops (201km) and was achieved by Mark Bezzina but Nikki broke it and ran 47 loops instead.

That’s 48 hours without the chance to properly sleep or eat yet Nikki has come out victorious and endured to the point of impossibility.

“A big shout out goes to his amazing crew Anita, Ian and co, who have kept him going smoothly lap after lap”, I Endured Events Malta wrote.

“We are so proud of you Niki - thank you for continuing to inspire and push the limits of the local running scene”, they continued.

What an athlete!
