The discovery of an ancient Roman quarry unearthed at the site of the former Ninu Cremona Boys' Secondary School in Victoria's Republic Street, now the location of the new museum, generated a lot of excitement but also drew the museum project to a halt.

Now, it has been revealed that the quarry will be incorporated into the design of the new museum. The €9 million project will be documenting Gozo's cultural heritage.

The school, which had been built in the '50s, lay on top of this historical find yet its construction brought very little damage to the archaeological remains, mainly due to the fact that no cellars or underground structures had been built.

Exciting times ahead!
