A strange phenomenon occurred at Chadwick Lakes recently, where minimum water was collected despite the heavy rains the islands experienced over the past few days.
“Something is wrong. After the recent heavy rains, and with all the flooding on the roads, yet hardly any water at Chadwick lakes in Rabat,” says John Xuereb on Facebook, sharing pretty shocking photos of a nearly dry Chadwick Lakes.
However, currently Chadwick Lakes is being rehabilitated which will see the water capacity in the area increasing “by more than 35 million litres,” according to the Chadwick Lakes Trail page. A Facebook users commented with this information, saying that large amounts of water “would have ruined all the work being done.”
According to a source involved in the rehabilitation project, this is indeed the current state of parts of the valley as despite the heavy rains, not much water was deposited at Chadwick Lakes. Pooling may have occurred in certain parts of the valley, and work is still being done for water to be able to flow down to other areas. The rehabilitation project is still ongoing.
