Force 7 winds approaching! Gozo fast ferry suspended and beaches across Malta double-flagged
The sea doesn't seem to be in the mood for visitors today!

After last night’s stormy weather and strong winds, Malta woke up to turbulent seas and hazard warnings at several popular beaches. Authorities are urging beachgoers and commuters to exercise caution as the weather page Aġġornament tat-temp warns that wind gusts are expected to climb to force 7 today, Friday 16th May.

In fact, the Malta Red Cross has issued a Double Red Flag warning for today at four popular swimming spots across Malta. This means that swimming is strongly discouraged due to dangerous sea conditions.

The affected beaches are:

  • Għajn Tuffieħa
  • Golden Bay
  • Perched Beach
  • Fond Għadir

Lifeguards are currently on duty at these locations, but public cooperation is essential. Swimmers are urged to stay out of the water and follow all safety instructions provided by the on-site lifeguard teams.

‘As we kick off beach season, our lifeguards are on duty and ready – but safety comes first,’ said the Red Cross in a statement shared yesterday.

Travel plans between Malta and Gozo have also been impacted. Gozo Highspeed announced that their fast ferry service is suspended until further notice due to rough sea conditions.

Commuters are advised to monitor official channels for the latest updates on service resumptions and to consider alternative transport options for essential travel.

While the storm may have passed, sea conditions remain unpredictable. Whether you’re heading to the beach or planning to travel between the islands, make safety your top priority today (and always)! Stay tuned to official updates and always respect lifeguard warnings.

Does this impact your start-of-the-weekend plans?
