What a beaut! Xewkija’s centuries-old windmill received some TLC & is looking FAB!
The Xewkija Windmill found on Malta’s sister isle has received some much-needed TLC thanks to a regeneration project of the Gozitan locality’s square. Works were well underway over the summer, and according to locals posting on socials, it seems to be nearing the end.

In comments to TVM at the end of August, architect Shaun Micallef said that the works on this eight-façade windmill (and oldest one in the locality) includes works on both the outer and inner parts of the structure. Works involved the replacement of the concrete ceiling with traditional stone beams, a good cleaning of the stones, and also the rebuilding of the windmill’s mechanism.

The windmill was commissioned by Grand Master Perellos at the turn of the 18th century and has a unique shape, having been built in an octagon shape. The first miller who operated in was Ganni Scicluna back in 1710, later being taken over by his son Michele.

How cool is this windmill?
