Weightlifter Yazmin Zammit Stevens wins international competition, named ‘Athlete Ambassador’
It’s been a massive couple of years for local weightlifter Yazmin Zammit Stevens…
At just 29-years-old, and after six years of training, Yazmin has not only made it to the Olympics, but has also just been named an Official Athlete Ambassador for the sport.
She received this title at the first-ever International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Street Competition in Quartier du Flon, Lausanne, Switzerland, held last Saturday.
Unsurprisingly, Yaz absolutely dominated this competition and snatched first place.
The IWF Street Competition operated on a team basis, with Yazmin’s team, named Team Ambassador, including Olympic Gold Medalist Meso Hassona from Qatar. Each team was made up of two athletes, one male and one female.

After a tenacious 215kg Clean and Jerk, Meso and Yazmin totaled a whopping 535kg and accumulated an overall score of 891.9 Robi points.
The scope of the arrangement of this IWF competition was to bring the sport closer to its audiences in an effort to better its image in the coming years.
Congratulations Yaz!
