We weren’t imagining it all! May 2019 was the “coldest and wettest” one in the past 15 years

According to latest data released by online weather site It-Temp Madwarna, May 2019 was officially the “coldest and wettest” one in the past few years. See? We weren’t making a fuss - it actually was that cold!

Record data for May 2019

1. During the month of May, “22.5mm of rainfall was recorded on the Maltese Islands, which is double the usual amount during this time,” the site said.

2. It-Temp Madwarna also noted that last month, nine days out of 31 recorded some sort of rainfall, compared to the average of three to four days of previous years.

3. Most rainfall recorded was during the four or five night-time storms we had; these saw a good 6mm of rainfall, mostly hitting Gozo.

4. Six thunder rumblings were heard on different occasions; it was also reported to be a cloudier than average May.

5.Some hail was also reported to have fallen on the Maltese Islands

6. We also had large amounts of blood rain last month, which didn’t go down too well with our cars and windows.

7. May 2019 was the coldest one in the past 15 years, with temperatures being around 2°C lower than average. See? Wearing hoodies last month wasn’t an exaggeration!

8. The week starting 6th May was the windiest one last month, with winds reaching up to Force 7.

We’re so thankful that we’ve got our Mediterranean sunshine back, at least for a couple of weeks! And a heat spell is on its way this weekend with temperatures expected to reach about 33°C. #Sunsoutbunsout
