Patrick Maia, the Marsa player whose son was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer a few weeks ago shared a message through Malta, news, Photos and People about his son, baby Luca’s condition.

“27 days at hospital... 21 days in intensive care. Now we’re seeing the first developments,” the message reads. “My son, I know we’ve got months of fighting ahead of us against this disease.”

“We don’t know exactly when that day will come that you will be free of the disease. I believe in your victory. Seeing you smile and your eyes filled with happiness strengthen my heart.”

In early April, Maia took to social media penning a heartfelt thank you message to all locals who donated to their cause. “I’d like to thank the Maltese people, you’re being so amazing to my son,” he said. “And I have no words to thank you and show you my [gratitude]. My son will make all of you so proud of him. I couldn’t be in a better place right now. Thank you, Malta.”

It’s been especially difficult for the Maia family as Patrick’s livelihood was greatly impacted by Covid as all organised sports were banned in an effort to curb the spread.
