The Maltese are known to have hearts of gold when it comes to charity work, donating to notable causes and giving their time when they can to the less fortunate, sometimes even heading out of the country. 20-year-old Petra Licari will be doing just that - along with 27 other volunteers, she'll be jetting off to Malindi and Mbaoni in Kenya this August, to give a helping hand.

This is actually not Petra’s first rodeo. “I've been to Kenya in 2018 and it was a very positive experience. I always wished to do voluntary work and joined Karibu! Malta in order to make this wish come true,” she explains.
“I've always wished to help others in need and last year's experience made this possible. I've helped in the construction of classrooms in the remote village of Mbaoni and also spent time with kids from the village.”

This year’s experience
This year, Petra will be jetting off to Mbaoini, joining Karibu! Malta again to lend a helping hand to finish off a three-year project which initiated in 2017. “This whole project will cost a total of €90,000 and includes the building of a hall, classrooms with stores, administration buildings, a borehole and public toilets. This year, we will be financing the restructuring of a school in Watamu as well.”
I am so looking forward to visiting Kenya again. It's such a rewarding experience and am really eager to meet the kids who I met last year. The smile on their face is unforgettable and I can't wait to be there.
