Alexia Pauline Tabone, a 24-year-old nurse, will be representing our islands in Miss Earth, and jets off to the Philippines for the competition this week.

Earlier this week, a video was released in which Alexia introduces herself and Malta in an 'Eco-Video' as part of the competition. In the video, Alexia notes various indigenous plants that grow specifically on our islands and the importance of preserving the Maltese environment.
“Positive action must be taken now to save the little that is left. We should stop building on natural habitats and create more nature reserves and parks, and restore and manage them for their optimum biodiversity.” She also encourages flower walks to appreciate the beauty of our natural surroundings.

Alexia is also an advocate against animal abuse and has volunteered in animal shelters a number of times. As part of her campaign, and to help her professional area, she hopes to implement strategies to make Malta’s hospital a greener and more sustainable one. “The health of patients depends on it,” she says. “Earth is what we all have in common, so we have to work together so as to safeguard our Mother Earth.”
