WATCH: Maltese-American presidential hopeful is open to raising kids in the White House
It wouldn’t be a first in the home of the US president.
Maltese-American presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, better known as Mayor Pete, said that his presidential run isn’t going to crush his and his husband’s dream of becoming fathers.
In a recent interview on CNN, Mayor Pete opened up about the possibility of having kids with husband Chasten. While the presidential run has pushed this in the backseat for the time being, Pete says it's still on the table. “I don’t see why not,” Pete said. “I think it wouldn’t be the first time children have arrived to a first couple. But obviously that’s a conversation I’d better have with Chasten before I go into it too much on television.”
The couple celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary yesterday, falling on Father’s Day – a bittersweet celebration as Pete lost his father, Joseph A. Buttigieg (a Maltese literary scholar), to an illness back in January.
According to the latest stats, Pete has enjoyed a significant rise in popularity among American voters since he announced he was considering a presidential run back in January, so who knows? Maybe we’ll actually have Maltese blood in the White House.
