The Malta Ginger Mermaid – a local influencer with a liking for all things marine – has just spotted a stunning yet endangered creature roaming through Maltese waters.
The rough skate, commonly referred to as Raja Radula is highly endangered ray whose sheer existence is being challenged by unsustainable fishing practices.
“The rough sake is listed on the IUCN Red List as an endangered species, meaning it is close to being extinct from the wild. The biggest threat this species is facing is, in fact, bycatch of trawling, gillnets, trammel nets, bottom longlines etc.,” The Malta Ginger Mermaid wrote.
“Notwithstanding all this, it seems that this species is still not protected under Maltese legislation,” she continued.
