WATCH: Here's the most outrageous footage from Malta’s crazy thunderstorm this weekend
Unless you remained asleep the entire weekend (if you did, we’re jelly), you’d know that the Maltese Islands were hit with quite the wack thunderstorm that caused a little damage and a heck of a lot of reaction from locals. We’ve rounded up some awesome shots and insane videos of the storm and its aftermath.
Well, damn
This wack thunderstorm hit St Julian’s pretty bad and this video proves it, with the Instagram user saying that the “weather is so extraordinarily uncertain lately.”
Flash!
Over the weekend, lightning lit up the sky in various parts of the island, but his shot taken in Zejtun is pretty awesome.
Big bang!
Holy smokes! This flash of lightning in Marsaskala was the biggest one this local ever saw, he claims. Well, it’s pretty nuts!
Sea grumbling
Things got a little wild in the sky, on land and at sea. But this shot of lightning striking over Sliema emits a sense of beauty we’re absolutely loving. Kudos to the photographer!
Niagra Falls, is that you?
Yup, it rained that heavily. Public staircases were transformed into waterfalls as Malta was hit with an insane storm. This area off Bisazza Street in Sliema resulted in a stream of water rushing down the street.
Flood alert!
This video and others like it made the rounds on social media as St Andrew’s Road in Swieqi was possibly one of the worst roads to drive through yesterday. As you can see, it was FLOODED with some cars seemingly being pushed from their parking spot and floating in the middle of the road or possibly just completely stopped due to the amounts of water in the streets. Yikes!
It seems like this week we’re in for some more crazy weather with the Met Office issuing a weather warning. “Isolated thundery and gusty showers, possibly with hail in places, will affect the Maltese Islands at times,” it reads.

They’re also forecasting thundery showers for today and Tuesday and isolated showers on Wednesday. Thankfully it seems like we’ll be getting a bit of sunshine back towards the end of the week… for now at least.
Do you love or hate this weather?
