Fresh off his starring role in Enola Holmes 3, Maltese actor Joe Azzopardi has been featured on the front page of Éclair, a French-American magazine for stars and emerging artists.

In an interview with the magazine, Joe opens up about his journey from performing in Shakespeare plays in London to working alongside the likes of Millie Bobby Brown in the new Netflix film, which was filmed and based in Malta.

“Theatre taught me how much is learned through the rehearsal process; you have to do all that preparation in your own head before your first day on set,” he says.

“There's a certain burst of energy I get on stage that I try to recreate on set, but it has to be far more contained. What reads as amplified and expansive on stage needs to be much more subtle for the camera.”

However, he says the theatre is still very much close to his heart and tries to perform a Shakespeare play every year with WhatsTheirNames Theatre Company.

Speaking about Enola Holmes 3, he says it was "an extremely magical and almost patriotic feeling" to work on a film set almost entirely in Malta.

“Usually, certain films that shoot in or take place in Malta end up showcasing Malta in a short segment of that respective film,” he says.

“So, I can’t tell you how excited I was to see my two cultures come together on such a massive scale in my industry. And with a Scouser at the helm. It all fit so perfectly.”
