Jayana Chircop, 11, was awarded a prize for kindness in recognition of her efforts to support and include a classmate in everyday school life.
President Myriam Spiteri Debono bestowed the 2026 Pope John Paul II prize upon Jayana during a heartwarming ceremony at the San Anton Palace.
The annual prize, established by Fr Dionysius Mintoff through Peace Lab, recognises children who show kindness and compassion towards other kids in their everyday lives.

Jayana, a student at the Rabat primary school – part of St Nicholas College – was nominated by her school’s administration for frequently helping Cataleya Borg, who was described as a classmate who requires support and comfort.
“Jayana’s constant support, and the way she offers it, helps Cataleya feel welcomed by others and fully included as part of the class, just like all the other students,” a statement read.
“She does her utmost to ensure that Cataleya takes part in special occasions organised by the school, allowing her to share in the joy of the moment with her classmates.”
President Spiteri Debono praised Jayana and said her daily actions should serve as an example to adults on how to live their own lives.
“Year after year, this prize reminds us that even the smallest gestures can have a profound impact,” the President said.
