British spoken poet and top YouTuber Taz Alam, best known under her alias ClickForTaz, has made a name for herself in recent years with quirky and interesting online challenge videos, and her trip to Malta earlier this summer did not go undocumented.
In her signature laidback-yet-energetic style, Taz embarks on a tasting spree of several Maltese foods, snacks and drinks, and the results are nothing short of hilarious.
In her excitement, Taz leans back to pull out some cutlery from behind her, and accidentally manhandles the drawer in the process. She freezes when her friend informs her the accommodation’s contract requires her to pay for the damages, but nervously laughs it off. “Oh well, I hope [the landlady] doesn’t see this video!” she giggles awkwardly.
She kicks off with Kinnie, which she initially compares to popular Scottish drink Irn-Bru, but it is cheesy snack Twistees that wins her favour. While she gave more traditional options like spaghetti with rabbit, timpana and pastizzi a miss, she manages to sample some other culinary staples.
She is in awe of how big the serving of seafood spaghetti turns out to be, and while she expresses some reservations to having mussels in her food, she gleefully gobbles down her spaghetti. “It doesn’t taste fishy at all!”, she announces. A Maltese platter ensues, followed by swordfish with roasted vegetables. “Oh my God, I’m so excited I actually like all the food!” she squeals. “Whoever cooked this did a good job.”
Unfortunately she was unable to fit in a trip to a pastizzeria during her stay, and a quick hunt for a Maltese store back in Cardiff didn’t bear much fruit either. “I don’t think I can have pastizzi, which is such a shame because that’s the one thing I really wanted to try!” the forlorn YouTuber groans. Let’s all show her some love, pool together and send her a big tray!
Quick side note Taz, those are not chocolate, date or raisin biscuits, but honey rings!
