Villa Guardamangia SAVED from uncertain future & we can’t wait for what’s in store!
Villa Guardamangia has been a major source of inspiration for conspiracy theorists ever since it went on the market. Many feared that the once grand structure would be dragged down and replaced with a bland apartment block. But, just as we were giving up on the idea of ever seeing the historical site restored to its original state, good news flits in!
It has been revealed that the Government has gone and purchased the iconic Villa, and a collaboration is already being effected with the Pieta Local Council to turn the site into a major tourist attraction.
Villa Guardamangia acted as a home away from home for Queen Elisabeth and Prince Phillip during their residency in Malta between 1949 and 1951.
The Queen harbours fond memories of the island and is known to have said that she spent “some of her happiest days in Malta.” Since then, the Queen has visited the island a total of six times and, on her last trip, she admitted that the place which housed such fond memories “now looks rather sad.”
It is not yet clear how the government plans to transform the site, but I know I’d love to see a museum which could double up as a B&B style accommodation where you can live as a royal for a day. What better way to learn about and understand royal history than to role-play their lifestyle?
