A Maltese cat shelter has issued an urgent appeal for a generator, warning that prolonged power cuts could prove fatal for its most vulnerable cats.

CSAF – Carers for Stray and Abandoned Felines said today that its Cospicua shelter has been left without electricity overnight and the situation was becoming critical.

“Our greatest concern is our medical rooms, where we keep cats that are sick, recovering from surgery, or receiving treatment,” it said.

“These are converted metal containers that rely on air conditioning to remain at a safe temperature.”

“Without electricity, they have become unbearably hot and, if power is not restored urgently, they could become a death sentence for the vulnerable cats inside.”

It warned that other kitties at the shelter are also suffering and that every hour that passes without electricity puts them at greater risk.

The shelter said it urgently needs a generator it can borrow or rent immediately, and appealed to Enemalta to prioritise its case.

“Even if you can't help directly, please share this post as widely as possible. It could reach the one person who can help save our cats,” it said.
