Sliema Wanderers are set to announce the signing of Malta international footballer Teddy Teuma.

The transfer of the 32-year-old midfielder is being viewed as one of the most significant signings by a Maltese club in recent history.

Born in France, he started his career with French sides Hyères, Boulogne and Red Star before signing for Union Saint-Gilloise, where he was made club captain.

After four seasons at the Belgian club, he signed for Stade de Reims, becoming the first Maltese player to play in Ligue 1.

He returned to Belgium in January to play for Standard Liege but is now heading to Malta as a marquee signing for the local version of Les Blues.

It is a serious statement of intent from Sliema Wanderers, which remain one of the most successful Maltese football teams despite not winning the league since the 2004/05 season.
