1. All of Nas Daily’s Malta vids
Nas Daily probably got more than he bargained for when he come to Malta, but his videos have travelled the world, telling stories about this little island to his legion of followers. One of the most popular videos he made while here (raking up a whopping 10 million views!) is ‘The Most Surprising Guy’ which introduces us to enterprising and inventive Salvu, a resident of Comino (population: 3), who spends his days taking care of his brother and building eco-friendly machines, such as a solar-based water purifying system, which will make his life simpler and happier. His dream? To build a hovercraft. Let’s hope that is realised soon enough!
2. Malta – a short film by Oliver Astrologo
This short film about Malta, one in a series of destination videos, was made by photographer Oliver Astrologo and features some stunning imagery of the islands. Sweeping shots of the landscape, including some very familiar sites such as the Valletta skyline, are cut to a rousing score, showing the very best of what the islands have to offer. Over 316,000 views have been registered on the Facebook link, with over 4K people having shared the post, proof of the popularity of these islands!
3. Amazing places of Malta filmed from the air by the Exploration Brothers
This video by the Exploration Brothers may be three years old, but it still puts a beat into drone footage of the islands. The duo aim to “bring you unique perspective on the most interesting places around the globe by combining aerial and land footage” and, boy, do they do that here!
4. The Maltese Language: An Arabic Descendant by Langfocus
We always knew the Maltese language was special, but did you know that it descended from Siculo-Arabic (Sicilian-Arabic)? This video tells the story of Maltese and, with over half a million views, it seems to have piqued the interest of many a youtuber! It traces the evolution of the language, from its origins in Sicily to its current form as a ‘hybrid language’, a language based on the semitic but incorporating vocabulary from Italy, England and France – a representation of the diversity of the Maltese themselves.
And now for some old-school fun...
5. Malta Potatoes by Jansen Dongen
Five years ago, the world was introduced to this passionate young Maltese farmer, whose love for the Maltese potato had us all hooked - well, over 400,000 of us anyway, and that's practically the whole population of Malta! His fresh authenticity and honest charm brought back memories of the bucolic Mediterranean island many miss, and the best part is that you can catch him in person this weekend, at Qrendi's Potato and Agrarian Festival.
6. Miss Malta interview with judges by Miss World
Way back in 2011, our Miss Malta was interviewed by judges from the Miss World contest. The resulting video had many scratching their heads: what did she mean exactly? It didn't start out too badly, but, seven years on, we're still trying to figure out what she was trying to say. Any hints?
