In recent years, Valletta has had a major makeover with the design of a new City Gate, Parliament, Opera House and Gardens being implemented. And while it’s looking fab and modern, we sometimes love to look back to a time gone by when Valletta had, as many of us remember it, the old gate and old habits at that!
This photo is a true throwback to a time when locals could drive through the city’s main gate and park where the new Parliament now stands, opposite the arches on the left hand-side.
Old kiosks and shops that have since closed or have opened as something else can be seen in this shot, along with the ruins of the former Royal Opera House that has since been renovated into an open-air theatre, particularly popular during the summer months.
Be it then or nowadays, cars parking or not, Republic Street remains one of the busiest areas in the capital city, bustling with life on a day-to-day basis.
