The Townsquare project
Townsquare will be a mixed-use lifestyle development comprising of residential, retail, business and social spaces in the heart of Sliema. Designed by a team of local and international architects, the development proposal includes 159 apartments, retail areas, cafes and restaurants, offices, underground parking, connected within 7,500 sqm of landscaped open piazzas, gardens and walkways.
The new proposal
The revised plans include the same number of apartments - 159 - as the initial proposal, but it sees a reduction in the amount of floor-space for the commercial spaces such as offices, retail and food and beverage outlets, as well as a reduction of 37m (11 storeys) of the total height of the tower.
Townsquare will be built on the former Union Club site near the scheduled Villa Drago, which will also be restored as part of the project. It will also include 7,500sqm of public open space, which will make it the largest pedestrian zone in the town, and has been redesigned to feature more greenery.
Townsquare CEO Peter Diacono believes Townsquare will be a top spot in Sliema. “Townsquare will be a project of the highest quality, and our team are excited to begin this next chapter to create a new dynamic space that Sliema can be proud of.”
