An Emergency Accommodation Refund Scheme has been launched to support Gozitan residents who were stranded in Malta on the 19th and 20th of January 2026, following the suspension of Gozo Channel ferry services while Storm Harry was battering the Maltese Islands.

The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to affected residents who were forced to spend one or more nights in Malta, helping to partially cover the cost of emergency accommodation.

The refund applies to accommodation expenses incurred in licensed hotels, hostels, or similar establishments, offering partial reimbursement for the unexpected costs faced during this exceptional situation.

Due to the stormy conditions, several Gozitan residents found themselves unable to return home, resulting in significant inconvenience and unforeseen expenses for individuals and families alike.

Applications must be submitted online via the official portal: mygozo.gov.mt or through the MyGozo App. Applicants will be required to provide a valid Maltese ID card showing Gozo as the primary residence and official accommodation receipts clearly indicating the name of the establishment, dates of stay, and the total amount paid.
