Malta is known for having a lot of churches and chapels...359 to be exact. So, there’s bound to be a church that you’re not aware of yet. In fact, The Department of Malta’s Facebook page makes it a mission to introduce locals and tourists alike to different churches and chapels.

This time, their followers were introduced to the hidden gem situated in the heart of Gudja: The Church of Our Lady of Loretu. Steeped in history, this sacred site has long been a focal point of devotion, particularly during the era of the knights.

Elegant in its simplicity, the facade of the Church of Our Lady of Loretu exudes a timeless charm. Above the modest entrance, a window invites light into the sanctuary, while a belfry proudly stands tall, adorned with a cross and a delicate bell. Flanking the tower are two stone flames, a symbol of enduring faith.

Once you step inside, you will be greeted by two altars, each bearing witness to centuries of prayer and reverence. The main altar, crafted from marble, pays homage to Our Lady of Loretu, a figure beloved by pilgrims throughout the ages.

Meanwhile, the second altar honours the sacred moment of Our Lady's visit to Saint Elizabeth, a reminder of the enduring power of faith and compassion.

For those seeking solace or simply a moment of quiet reflection, the Church of Our Lady of Loretu offers a sanctuary steeped in history and spirituality.

Have you ever visited the Church of Our Lady of Loretu?
